About Us

Helping & Nurturing the Disadvantaged

HAND is a community organisation committed to tackling disadvantage, particularly where it affects women, older people and young people from BME communities.

Our work focuses on issues including social isolation, loneliness, social exclusion, poverty and limited access to support. We create welcoming and inclusive opportunities that help people build confidence, improve their wellbeing, develop friendships and become more connected to their communities.

Our approach is simple: bring people together, listen to their needs and create activities that make a practical difference to their lives.

Our Project - Together Project

Our Together Project brings together women aged 50+ from BME communities in Hillingdon who may be experiencing loneliness, isolation or social exclusion.
Every fortnight, women come together for a welcoming three-hour community session. Sessions include time to meet and make new friends, refreshments, gentle exercise and mobility activities led by a qualified fitness instructor, and a healthy shared lunch.
The activities are inclusive and accessible to women with different levels of fitness and mobility.

Making a Difference

The project has already been running successfully for six months, with 110 women taking part.

  • 100% have made new friends
  • 100% feel more connected to their community
  • 95% feel less socially isolated
  • 80% feel more confident
  • 80% feel less lonely
  • 76% feel more physically active
